A cornerstone of their construction is the use of Andersen's proprietary Perma-Shield®, a low-maintenance vinyl exterior that is designed to resist fading, chipping, and peeling, thereby eliminating the need for painting. This robust exterior encases a core of solid wood, providing structural integrity and natural insulation properties.
For enhanced energy efficiency, the 400 Series utilizes advanced glazing options. These include:
- Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass: This glass is designed to significantly reduce solar heat gain in the summer and retain heat in the winter, contributing to lower energy bills. It also offers superior protection against UV rays, which can cause fading of interior furnishings.
- Low-E4® Sun glass: This option provides a balance of light and solar heat control.
- Tempered glass: Available for safety and security applications, this glass is stronger and more resistant to breakage.
- Obscure glass: Ideal for areas requiring privacy, such as bathrooms, this glass diffuses light while obscuring the view.
