Construction and Materials
Goodfellow offers a diverse range of lumber and engineered wood products designed for various construction and woodworking applications. Their product categories span from traditional hardwoods and softwoods to advanced engineered wood solutions like I-Joists and Glulam beams, as well as panel products such as MDF and Particleboard. They also provide specialty wood items, timbers, and treated lumber for specific project needs.
The construction and materials used in Goodfellow's lumber and engineered wood products vary significantly depending on the specific item. For instance:
- Hardwoods and Softwoods: These are typically solid wood materials sourced from various tree species, processed into standard lumber dimensions. Their construction involves cutting logs into planks and beams, which are then dried and graded for strength and quality. The materials are natural wood fibers, characterized by their grain patterns and inherent strength properties.
- Engineered Wood Products (I-Joists, Glulam): These products are manufactured by bonding together wood strands, veneers, or lumber pieces using adhesives.
- I-Joists are constructed with an 'I' shape, featuring flanges (typically made of solid lumber or laminated veneer lumber - LVL) and a web (made of oriented strand board - OSB or plywood). This design optimizes material use for high strength-to-weight ratios.
- Glued Laminated Timber (Glulam) is made by layering and bonding together dimension lumber with structural adhesives. This process creates large, strong structural members capable of spanning significant distances.
- Panel Products (MDF, Particleboard, OSB, Plywood): These are composite wood materials made by combining wood fibers, particles, or veneers with binders and pressure.
- MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is made from wood fibers combined with wax and resin binder, pressed into panels under high temperature and pressure.
- Particleboard is manufactured from wood particles (such as wood chips or sawdust) mixed with resin or other suitable binders, which are then pressed and extruded or cast.
- OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is constructed from cross-oriented layers of rectangular wood strands or wafers that are bonded together with adhesives using heat and pressure.
- Plywood is made by gluing together thin sheets of wood veneer, called plies or lamellas, with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another.
- Beams and Timbers: These can refer to solid sawn lumber or engineered wood products, depending on the specific application and material specification. They are designed for structural load-bearing purposes.
- Treated Lumber: This refers to lumber that has been chemically treated to resist decay, fungi, and insects. The construction involves pressure treating the wood with specific preservatives.
- Specialty Wood: This category likely includes unique wood species or custom-milled lumber, where the specific materials and construction methods would depend on the individual product's nature.
The selection of materials and construction techniques employed by Goodfellow ensures that their lumber and engineered wood products meet the demanding requirements of the construction industry, providing solutions for framing, structural support, finishing, and various other applications.

Style Options
The style options for Princeton Classic Mouldings primarily revolve around the inherent beauty and adaptability of wood. While specific stylistic collections are not detailed, the brand emphasizes traditional craftsmanship and timeless appeal, suggesting a range of profiles and finishes suitable for various architectural styles.
- Wood Type: The selection of wood is a primary stylistic differentiator. Different wood species offer unique grain patterns, natural colors, and weathering characteristics, allowing for a customized look.
- Profile Variety: Mouldings come in a wide array of profiles, from simple and clean lines to ornate and detailed designs. This allows for matching existing architectural features or creating a distinctive look for new construction. Examples could include crown moulding, baseboard, casing, and panel mould.
- Finish Options: While not explicitly detailed, wood mouldings can be finished in numerous ways. This includes natural finishes that highlight the wood's grain, stains that alter the color, or paint for a uniform appearance. The choice of finish significantly impacts the overall style and mood of the exterior.
- Siding & Exterior Trim: In this category, style options would encompass various siding profiles like clapboard, shiplap, or tongue-and-groove, alongside a broad selection of trim elements such as corner boards, fascia, soffits, and window/door casings, each contributing to the building's overall architectural expression.
- Decking: For decking, style is often dictated by the wood species chosen for its natural color and grain, as well as the pattern created by the arrangement of the deck boards. Popular styles range from classic parallel plank layouts to more intricate herringbone or diagonal patterns.
- Lumber: While lumber is often considered a structural component, its appearance can also contribute to a project's style, especially in exposed applications. The natural wood grain and color become part of the design aesthetic.
Construction and Materials
Princeton Classic Mouldings offers a range of high-quality wood products for exterior applications. The construction and materials used are detailed below, focusing on their commitment to durability and aesthetic appeal.
Wood Decking
Princeton Classic Mouldings provides wood decking options designed for longevity and natural beauty. The primary material used for their decking is naturally durable wood species, selected for their inherent resistance to decay and insect damage. These woods are typically kiln-dried to ensure stability and reduce the risk of warping or cracking after installation. The construction of the decking boards generally involves a tongue-and-groove or standard square edge profile, allowing for easy and secure installation over joist systems.
Siding & Exterior Trim
For siding and exterior trim, Princeton Classic Mouldings utilizes premium wood species known for their performance in exposed environments. The materials are chosen for their structural integrity and aesthetic qualities. Siding products may come in various profiles, such as clapboard, shiplap, or board and batten, offering diverse architectural looks. Exterior trim pieces, including corner boards, window and door casings, and fascia, are crafted to complement the siding and provide a finished appearance. These components are typically milled to precise dimensions, ensuring a tight fit and clean lines.
Lumber & Engineered Wood
Princeton Classic Mouldings also supplies a selection of lumber and engineered wood products. The lumber offered is generally comprised of high-grade softwood species, processed for structural applications. This includes dimensional lumber suitable for framing and other construction needs. Engineered wood products may be available, providing enhanced stability and performance characteristics. The construction of these materials involves carefully selected wood fibers or strands that are bonded together under pressure and heat to create consistent and reliable building components.
Materials
- Decking: Primarily uses naturally durable wood species.
- Siding & Exterior Trim: Employs premium wood species selected for structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
- Lumber: Typically features high-grade softwood species.
- Engineered Wood: May include products created from bonded wood fibers or strands.
